ORBIT studies what can be observed around the restaurant before asking internal sales data to explain people who never bought.
About ORBIT
A restaurant can measure every sale and still know very little about the customers who walked away.
ORBIT was built around that blind spot: the decision before the transaction. The work focuses on customer choice, competitor context and external evidence that is usually scattered across different places.

Founder & Research Lead
Donnie Yap
Founder & Research Lead, ORBIT
Donnie leads ORBIT’s work on restaurant customer choice, competition and market intelligence. His background spans more than five years across applied R&D, engineering and product development, including advanced communications and 6G prototype work.
He holds an MSc in Communication Systems from the University of Surrey. His research and product background includes technical analysis, rapid prototyping, published research and patented work. At ORBIT, that analytical discipline is applied to a different question: why customers choose one restaurant, reject another, or never convert from interest into a visit.
How ORBIT thinks
The service is built around evidence boundaries, not certainty theatre.
Observed information, repeated patterns, interpretations and hypotheses are treated differently.
The goal is a clearer business decision, not a longer report or more charts.
AI-assisted, not AI-disguised
ORBIT can use AI in the research and analysis process. That is not the product claim.
AI can help organise, compare and process information. The work still requires defining the question, selecting relevant competitors, checking source context, separating evidence from inference, and deciding what deserves action. ORBIT's terms explicitly treat AI-assisted outputs and public data as fallible sources that must be qualified.
